THE ABSOLUTE HIGHLIGHT OF MAY LAST TRIP TO TEXAS WAS MEETING VENCIL MARES. THE OWNER AND PITMASTER OF THE TAYLOR CAFE, WHO CELEBRATED HIS 85TH BIRTHDAY 2 DAYS BEFORE I ARRIVED AND HE IS GOING STRONG.I ALWAYS LOVE GOING TO THE TRUE SHRINES OF BARBECUE AND THIS STOP WAS A TREAT! A WWII VETERAN AND A NATIVE TEXAN MR. MARES IS FOND OF VISITORS AND WAS HAPPY TO SET A SPELL AND TELL US THE TALES OF A SEASONED BARBECUE MAN.

THEY PULL THE SMOKED BEEF AND HOUSE MADE SAUSAGES OUT AND CUT YOUR ORDER FRESH , WRAP IT IN BUTCHER PAPER OFFER SOME BEANS OR A FABULOUS POTATO SALAD AND SLAP THAT BUNDLE OF SMOKY DELIGHT RIGHT INTO YOUR WAITING HANDS.
