THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE JACK-FOURTH PLACE PORK AND SEVENTH PLACE SAUCE
Let me tell you a little bit about Tommy Houston. A native Virginian his family roots go back over five
generations in the Martinsville area. Tommy has been married to a "saint" of a gal named Lisa for 16 years.
Tommy opened his restaurant 12 years ago in April 1988 and has been a player in the Barbecue seen ever since, as well
as his catering and vending operations Tommy started competeing about 6 years ago. Introduced to barbecue cookoffs during
an event he was vending at up in North Carolina he said " Well I can do better than that!" so he started out
to win him some trophies. After taking a couple classes they were off. and won 1st. place Ribs in his first time out.In
2004 "Ceckerd Pig" won the "BEST OF THE WEST RIB COOKOFF" in Sparks Nv.and his sauce has won some awards
as well. Last year he won at the NBBQA sauce contest.Tommy's weapon of choice is his dueling pair of "Fast Eddy Smokers"
FEC-100 model and I have seen him work, and I'll tell you he's no slouch.
Tommy's restaurant "PIGS - R - US" is located at 1014 Liberty Street in Martinsville, Virginia, settin right out there on the city and county line. Here he serves up the ribs he has become widely known for, drawing in a loyal following including the Govenor, and a State Senator or two.Tommy's Barbecue is a little different than most as he has been smoking hams for his sandwiches since wayback. He also serves a grilled pork sandwich where he slices roast pork real thin and carmelizes the meat on the griddle... man I am makin myself hungry. Stop on by if you are in the area I gaurantee you won't be disapointed with the "Q". And I have heard that he sells a damn fine "Sweet Glazed Ham" that is a treat for the holidays. Tommy
is a true Virginia Tech fan, his Ford Duelly is VT Burgundy, and also a fan of Nascar. He says he really doesn't follow
any particular driver but I kinda think he roots for Carl Edwards. An avid outdoorsman, Tommy likes hunting for deer and is
into "off road" motorcycling and four wheeling , riding whenever he gets the chance. Tommy
is my kind of guy. He is always glad to see ya and will gladly set a spell, pass the jug and share tales with you. Check
